The Vision of a Champion: Advice and Inspiration from the World's Most Successful Women's Soccer Coach
Published in Hardcover by Ann Arbor Press Inc (June, 2002)
Authors: Anson Dorrance, Gloria Averbuch, and Mia Hamm
Average review score:

A good read!
Don't know anything about Anson Dorrance personally, but I love his books. There is so much great information. He really conveys his philosophy of how to become a great soccer player, and how a player should conduct themselves in high school and college. I enjoyed this book from a coach/parent standpoint, but I really think high-school age players could benefit from this as well.

One of the best soccer books ever.
Recently, I was sidelined in hospital, and my team bought me the book. I read it cover to cover twice, taking notes the second time.

Anson Dorrance has proven to be the guru for Womens soccer coaching in the United States. Some of the people he has shaped is a "Who's who" of soccer: Tony DiCiccio, Lauren Gregg, Kristine Lilly, Lorrie Fair, Cindy Parlow.... and some girl named Mia.

The book is written for players, but it is a MUST for any coach of girls, soccer or otherwise. In addition to talking about strengths and weaknesses in the current Womens game, he talks about the psychology of the team and player. He gives a no - holds barred insight into Tar Heel soccer, down to preseason drills, peaking cycles, intensity training and offseason training. It is all written in plain english that anyone can understand.

The entire UNC program is in here for all to examine. His thoughts on everything from his approach to injuries and resting players to recruiting players and demands for (scarce) scholarship money. He gives a good insight on the subject of soccer and scholarships that I wasn't aware of.

I highly recommend this book. It would be a bargain at twice the price. If you plan on playing Division I soccer, this book gives a good expectation of what the #1 program in the country looks for.

The Soccer Bible for Females and Those Who Love Them
After reading this book, it's no wonder that many of the women trained by Anson Dorrance are wonderful role models as well as amazing soccer artists. The game of soccer is not just about good technique, but also how the female soccer player develops into a responsible person, challenging herself physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. Dorrance and Averbuch have combined here to write the definitive work on growing a soccer player. This book is for the players, their parents and their coaches. If there is anyone who believes that coaching girls is no different than boys-this will prove otherwise. Bravo to the authors!

Great!
I found this dictionary so good, interesting and fun! Anyone learning spanish should get this book. And anyone who already speaks it fluently should too!

A priceless resource- good for students and professionals.
This is a new release by McGraw-Hill and is a very handy resource that offers a wealth of definitions and clarification of usage of everyday colloquialisms, slang, vulgarity and their meaning. When I saw the book in the store I was a bit hesitant to purchase it because of the price but I quickly realized that the price was incomparable to wealth of information offered. It's obvious that there was a considerable amount of time and research spent in order to produce this handy tool and I do believe it would most benefit those who are natives of Spanish, advanced students, professionals, journalists, translators, interpreters and writers. This dictionary would be overwhelming for a beginner as it is written in Spanish and the vocabulary used in the definitions and examples is advanced at times. The only flaw in this reference is does not give the country or countries where a typical expression may be used which I think is very valuable because what may be a friendly word or expression in one country may be totally offensive in another. Here are some examples of expressions detailed in this dictionary:

1.chochete- mujer joven (a young woman). This was new to me. I would say "jovencita" or "doncella".
2.en cuerpo y alma- plenamente, completamente (completely) This is an everyday expression in the Spanish language.
3.mala leche - mala suerte (bad luck) (Everyday expression).
4.curichi- avaro, tacaƱo (greedy)
5.meter la gamba - equivocarse (to make a mistake) I would say "meter la pata".

These are just some examples I selected at random and #4 , # 5 are new to me. I know the generic expressions but not the slang, which is valuable, and somewhere down the road I may come across these expressions. As mentioned above this resource is priceless and it will broaden your scope and understanding of everyday Spanish and aid you with correct usage. This is money well spent!

Great
I am a journalist living in NY, and I was researching vulgar speak in the Hispanic community. This is simply great. A wonderful tool.

Integrated Principles of Zoology
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math (13 June, 2003)
Authors: Cleveland P., Jr Hickman, Jr., Cleveland Hickman, Allan Larson, Larry Roberts, Jr. Hickman, Helen I'anson, and Larry S. Roberts
Average review score:

This book is a classic
Hard to improve on the previous editions, however, I like the tremendous online support that accompanies this newest edition. As always the text is consistantly readable, and the authors do a good job of dealing with the broad scope of the subject.

The best you can get!
The Integrated Principles of Zoology is the most thorough of the three in the Hickman/Zoology series. For a collegiate zoology/animal biology course, you can't find anything better. The 5th edition was the college/university standard back in 1975 when I took Zoology, and in the 11th edition is still the standard now when I teach Zoology. The text has been significantly revised since the 10th edition, with a terrific art program.

Four Star Book
This book told me everything I needed to know about zoology. It had a glossary in the back for words I didn't recognize and it was very informative. It is made like a text book for high school or college students.

Exile: The Unquiet Oblivion of Richard M. Nixon
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (June, 1984)
Author: Robert Sam Anson
Average review score:

A Very Good Book
This was truly a wonderful book. The writer really gives you personal account of the "comeback" of Nixon. There were a lot of details that I am sure most Americans do not know as Nixon basically fell off the radar screen until his death. This book gave you some much personal information that I put it down and have a new appreciation for what he went through. I would suggest reading this book right after 'The Final Days", the two books work very well together. There is also an interesting section in "Shadow" about Clinton and his speak at Nixon's funeral. This is a very interesting book and if you are interested in his life of just American politics I am sure you will also find the book interesting.

A very engaging, deep look at the man behind the president
An excellent book for those at least slightly familiar with all the ins and outs of the Nixon story. Many stories and anecdotes that are rare and memorable involving Nixon and everyone around him. I highly reccomend this book.

Fractal Image Compression
Published in Hardcover by A K Peters Ltd (February, 1993)
Authors: Michael F. Barnsley, Lyman P. Hurd, and Louisa F. Anson
Average review score:

The mathematics of fractals rather than their beauty
Most advances can be thought of as evolutionary, but in describing the contents of this book, one is tempted to add a soft r in front of the e. If fractal image compression lives up to its early promise, then the r should be made a very hard one. One seemingly inviolable law of computing is, ''Data will expand to fill all available memory, whether it be RAM, hard drive or floppy disk. It will also expand to exceed the capacity of any medium of data transfer''. As those who work with transferring large data sets understand, much of the recent success is due to the quality of the data compression algorithms rather then to improvements in the hardware. Compression utilities are now commonly bundled with many systems, for example, DOS 6.0.
To illustrate the potential impact of fractal compression, we take the following paraphrased quote from the introduction to the book. '' Encarta is a multimedia encyclopedia on a single CD... . In addition to an exhaustive collection of articles it contains seven hours of sound, 100 animations, 800 color maps... more than 7,000 photographs... and all encoded in less than 600 megabytes of data. All of the pictures are stored using fractal compression techniques." The mathematics used to obtain such rates of compression is thoroughly explained, but it is not easy to understand. Presented in the standard form of theorem followed by proof, some background in real analysis and linear algebra is essential to understand the heavier ideas. But it is well worth it, as some of the results are truly astonishing. Most impressive is the ability to zoom in on the images without significant loss of clarity. C source code solutions to some of the problems are included.
There is no doubt in my mind that by the end of this decade, exposure to fractals will be an essential component of the undergraduate major in applied mathematics. The majority of pure math programs will also include some exposure. While futurists dispute the consequences, there is universal agreement that the rapid transfer of enormous amounts of data will be the driving economic and entertainment force of the next several decades. Fractal compression techniques appear to be the leading candidate to provide the necessary degree of compacting.
Suitable for a course in the mathematics of fractals or an advanced seminar in data compression, this book should be required reading for all applied mathematicians. It is truly one of the most fascinating books that I have ever encountered.

A Master Work of a Great Mathematician
With code and example Barnsley leads your through some very hard concepts. I really like that he has covered the topic of information compression so well for the traditional archiving methods. A must for anyone serious about fractals. Your unique Associates ID is: thefractaltransl.

Pilgrim's Party
Published in Paperback by Dell Pub Co (October, 1977)
Author: Sadyebeth and Anson Lowitz

A Wonderful Classic
It is Thanksgiving night and I just finished reading this book to my four year old son and tucked him in for the night. This book was a favorite of my mother's when she was young. She shared it with me as a child and now I am reading it with my children. It tells the story of the Pilgrims starting in England; going to Holland and then coming across the sea in the Mayflower and ultimately landing in Plymouth where they form a friendship with the Indians and share a Thanksgiving feast. It is a nice story and the illustrations are wonderful. A fun way to share some history with children of all ages.

Old-fashioned Weekly Reader, great Thanksgiving story!
This is a really old book in the "Weekly Reader" series that is still used in schools today (at least in my kids' school!) Drawings on every page show authentic dress styles and activities. The drawings are warm and light-hearted, and some are funny. Text is great for beginning readers and gives a thorough overview of the Thanksgiving story on more than 60 pages. It was written in 1931 as part of the "Really Truly" series of books--among the first non-fiction books printed for very young children. Very enjoyable classic if you can find one!

The Rejuvenator's Bible
I've probably read more anti-aging books than most people, and The Rejuvenator's Bible is undoubtedly the most effective and authentic one yet. Everyone who values their body and personal well being should read this book. Nevermind escapism, read this book and truly help yourSELF.

The most effective and enjoyable book about rejuvenation yet
As said by the New Evolution Quarterly, "Finally an anti-aging writer who makes authenticity a reality...More than a worthwhile read, this book is a real treasure." Tired of the death and dumbness on TV?--be sure to read this wonderful book and find out what real, natural rejuvenation is all about.

Freak Legion: A Players Guide to the Fomori (Werewolf)
Published in Paperback by White Wolf Publishing Inc. (February, 1999)
Authors: Silhouette and Anson Maddoxs
Average review score:

Good ST Resource, a tad disgusting
I am a staunch White Wolf player, and have purchased 80% of my books right here from Amazon.com. They're faster and more reliable than my local retailer, so I've amassed almost every Werewolf: the Apocalypse book in print, with a large collection of Vampire: the Masquerade. This was my first Black Dog book, and also one of the more useful ones I own.

White Wolf seems to not go so much "adult" in terms of pornography as it does on a "lets see how gross we can make it." The entry comic is enough to turn a weak stomach, so definitely keep it out of children's hands -- just as the company suggests. It had a healthy spattering of profanity which wasn't necessary at all times in this reader's opinion, tossing it in possibly to put the "adult" rating on it instead of for emphasis. In today's era, however, that's easily overlooked. Once you get past the general disgusting aspects, or if they don't bother you, the book itself is an excellent resource. It develops the Formori by leaps and bounds over the Book of the Wyrm First or Second Editions. In Freak Legion, you not only learn the in depth history of various Fomori types and breeds, but you also have a full list of how to create and build them with the special powers (and the taints it costs them to be in servitude to the Wyrm.) It was very informative, and excellent fodder for even the Vampire Storyteller who might want to introduce a new element into their game to throw of players who have already "been there, seen that, done that" with V:tM. Pentex certainly doesn't have to be Werewolf specific with a Malkavian antribu on its board of directors, and the company itself is outlined in some ways which are "political" similar to Vampire, although that isn't the focus of the book. All told, I would recommend this book to any serious White Wolf Storyteller. There is a small chapter with ST Guidelines to go from splatter horror, to possible politics, to a good old fashioned "blaze of glory" situation. There's something for almost everyone. A great companion to Book for the Wyrm Second Edition.

WYRM Food......
This book is every thing i would expect from yet another exellent release from Black Dog books. Yet another vile manisfestation of the perveted mind of Black Dog. This is defianatelly one of the most gruesome yet best roleplay sourcebooks i have had the pleasure to read in years. As a mature roleplayer who likes to deal with mature themes Black Dog gives me the oppurtunity to feed and corrupt my twisted mind. Thank you to Black Dog for yet another fantastic release.

Corruption and Evil, and you can be that to!
Freak Legion is not as gruesome as one might imagine. The material isnt overtly stomach churning(the opening comic is dire but not that bad)but it is still enough to warrant a bit of maturity. A fomori is one of the more tragic aspects of the Wyrm's corruption of humankind; they didnt ask to be made into monsters, and Pentex plays on their helplessness. While a fomori may be very powerful in combat against a Garou, it is ultimately a tragic monster that is manipulated by the evils of Pentex and the Wyrm. Keeping in line with the "Dark Side" aspect of the Wyrm, one is lulled, never forced into bloody service to the Wyrm. This is an excellent sourcebook on playing these tragic yet very powerful lost souls.
